Project Outline/Initial Progress2/24/2024 For my Genius Hour project, I'm writing a piece of music using a website called "flat.io". It allows you to write different parts and add the effects you want to. My ultimate goal for this project is to write at least 80 measures with 10 different instrumental parts. The reason I decided to go this route with this project is because I've been in the band since sixth grade and I enjoy learning and playing music. It has been a pretty major part of my life for the last five or so years and I've always been interested in how music works and how it comes together to sound good. I hope that through this project I'll be able to learn more about music and why things work the way they work, as well as what sounds good and what doesn't. I'm eager to see how this goes over time and what I come up with to write as well as how it turns out. When it comes to what I've done so far, I got into the program some and started messing around with how it works. I like how much you can get from a website like that for completely free. There are some features that you have to pay for, but it is all just quality of life things, and nothing that impedes your ability to write what you want to. I came up with a few musical ideas and I like where it's going so far. I don't know much about chord progressions and how they work, and have tried to come up with some off the top of my head and what I want it to sound like, and they sound cool but not regular and like what I'm used to hearing. I'm not sure if I'll keep this initial try or not but it's been a good starting place for me. Flat has been very helpful in getting started on this and was exactly what I was looking for when I was looking up music composition programs initially. I'm very excited to see where this goes!
